ADHD and other Children's Learning and Behavior Difficulties

It is time for parents, teachers and any others charged with the responsibility of raising the next generation look to solutions other than drugs for children's behavior problems.  The medications used on children such as Ritalin, Concerta, Intuniv, Seroquel and others have extreme side effects and have even been shown to interfere with proper growth and to create serious physical problems.

More and more doctors and laypeople are finding things such as the amount of exercise a child gets, how much time they spend in front of the computer or TV, allergies and diet have a huge effect on the behavior of a child.  Even such a simple thing as a child being the youngest in their class have been found to effect how well self-controlled they are and how they get along with others.

Getting a child on a regular schedule, making sure their classes are not too fast or too slow for them, getting them out in the fresh air, playing games with living people (not on the computer), sufficient rest and nutrition and getting the child a full physical examination including checking for allergies are all things that can be done without risking the huge side effects of prescription drugs.

Here are some valuable resources to take a look at before putting a child on medication.  If you child or a child you know is already on psychiatric medication you should see a doctor who is qualified to help them taper off the drug.  As dangerous as it is to be on psychiatric drugs it is possibly even more dangerous to come off them without medical guidance and help.
